Умное Кафе — a Telegram Mini App case study for cafés | Oleg Bavaev

Telegram Mini App

Умное Кафе

A Telegram-first ordering system for cafés and coffee shops: guests scan a QR code, open the Mini App, choose items, submit an order, and track its status without a separate app.

Context

The project's challenge and context

The goal was to create a clear digital journey for a local business, allowing customers to order quickly from their table while the venue's team manages orders through familiar tools.

Challenge

What needed to be solved

  • Give guests a quick path to ordering inside Telegram without an overloaded interface.
  • Connect the customer Mini App, backend, order statuses, and operator side into one working system.
  • Prepare the solution for real everyday use, beyond demonstrating an idea.

Constraints

  • The journey must remain fast even for someone opening the service for the first time.
  • Operators need a clear, manageable control point without unnecessary routine manual work.
  • The Telegram environment and web layer impose their own UX and architectural constraints.

Implementation

What was done

I designed the product structure and divided the system into the customer journey, backend, operator side, and infrastructure.

I built a Mini App in React and TypeScript with a clear ordering flow inside Telegram.

I organized the backend, status handling, notifications, and connections to operations.

I prepared the infrastructure foundation and end-to-end checks so the solution could be developed further safely.

Role and stack

My role

The full fullstack cycle: product breakdown, architecture, backend, Mini App frontend, integrations, and launch preparation.

Outcome

What it brought to the business and team

The result was a Telegram-first ordering journey that reduces friction between scanning a QR code and placing an order.

Operators gained a clear workspace for managing venues and the order flow.

The project became the foundation of a product that can expand without changing the channel used to interact with guests.
